Asia Cup Final Preview: Pakistan vs Bangladesh
A couple of freak results have seen both World Cup finalists and hot favourites India and Sri Lanka pushed out of the Asia Cup tournament and have thus paved the way for yet another unpredictable and exciting end to the tournament. Hosts Bangladesh have played out of their skins to upset both India and Sri Lanka and thus have made it through to their first ever Asia Cup final, much to the delight of thousands of cricket crazy fans in their country.

An important factor looking ahead to this clash between Pakistan and Bangladesh will be the toss, as the wicket at Mirpur seems to be favouring batsmen markedly more under lights with the ball coming on nicely onto the blade. Bangladesh have had good luck with the toss so far in the tournament, that has seen them chase in all three of their league stage matches but it will be interesting to see what their plan of action will be if things turn around in the final that is to be played on Thursday, the 22nd of March.

Pakistan:

Pakistan’s last league match against India witnessed a complete reversal of roles for their side. Their normally very reliable bowling unit were put under the pump by a power packed Indian batting unit and consequently conceded defeat by allowing India to chase down a mammoth 330. Their usually mercurial batting unit, seemed to have come of age against India as they batting brilliantly as a unit, and played with purpose and confidence right from the outset. This success of the batting set up could tempt their captain Misbah to stick with the same composition, that of 6 batsmen and five bowlers.

The openers Mohammed Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed look in fine form and on the back of their record breaking stand against India, would want to continue the good work in the final too. The middle order too looks in good touch with Misbah, Younus Khan and Umar Akmal, all in adequate touch. The all rounders in Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Hafeez and Hammad Azam offer balance to this unit.

The bowling took a beating against India like never before and yet you could expect their world class bowlers in Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal and Shahid Afridi to hold their place while one between Wahab Riaz and Aizaz Cheema might get the axe if the team decides to draft a specialist wicketkeeper back in the side.

Bangladesh:

The one thing that has worked for the hosts in this tournament has been the consistency in their selection. Unlike times in the past they have stuck with a certain core of players up front and it has paid dividends. The batting seems to look very competitive with Tamim Iqbal and Shakib al Hasan leading the charge with some responsible and enterprising batting. They have been well supported by Juhurul Islam, captain Mushfiqur Rahim and the youngster Nasir Hossian.

Their bowling held up brilliantly against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the league stages and the management would dearly want them to repeat their magic once again in the final. Ace bowler Mashrafe Murtaza has found some form, while Shahadat Hossain and Nazmul Hossian have also been more than capable pace bowling partners. The spin options will be plenty for Rahim in the form of Abdur Razzak, Shakib, Nasir Hossain and Mahmudullah.

Shahadat got a bit of a pasting with the ball in the last game against Sri Lanka, and the team might consider drafting in an extra batsmen considering the number of bowlers at their disposal. This though is unlikely and Bangladesh might well retain their winning eleven.

Likely XIs

Pakistan: M Hafeez, N Jamshed, Y Khan, U Akmal, Misbah, H Azam, S Afridi, U Gul, A Cheema, A Rehman, S Ajmal

Bangladesh: T Iqbal, Nazimuddin, J Islam, M Rahim, Shakib, N Hossain, Mahmudullah, A Razzak, M Murtaza, N Hossain, S Hossain

Recent form:

Pakistan: L W W
Mar 18 2012: Lost to India by 6 wickets
Mar 15 2012: Beat Sri lanka by 6 wickets
Mar 13 2012: Beat Bangladesh by 21 runs

Bangladesh: W W L
Mar 20 2012: Beat SL by 5 wickets
Mar 16 2012: Beat India by 5 wickets
Mar 13 2012: Lost to Pak by 21 runs

Key Players:

Saeed Ajmal: This mystery off-spinner stood firm when the rest of the bowling was being pulverised by the Indians and with his variations and guile he could be a handful for the bangla boys.

Tamim Iqbal: arguably Bangladesh’s best batsman for many years now, this man has silenced his critics with some terrific knocks in the tournament so far and his team would dearly want him to fire away at the Pakistanis in the final.

Pitch and Conditions: The wicket and conditions in Mirpur have offered an undue advantage to the sides batting second, hence the toss could be crucial once again in this all important final. Nevertheless, if the rain stays away, we could be in for an exciting contest.

Match Prediction: Pakistan will edge out the inexperienced Bangladeshi side and take home the trophy.
I hope Bangladesh will WIN the Asia Cup Final..Bangladesh is Power of Asia. So I hope We win Asia Cup 2012.
Bangladesh Played like an Real International Sides not a minnow in this Asia Cup and if the repeat the same they are unexpectedly fav.Pakistan their attack heavily dpend on ajmal and If bangla player play out Ajmal and attack other they will very much on ther way for another upset victory.
I m a pakistani fan since birth,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but today I will support bangladesh coz they deserve to lift asia cup,,,,,,,,
Pakistan set target of 237 for Bangladesh.

Gilani appoints new ISI chief Muft Pakistan

Sir Zaid Hamid Views :
Nation salutes General Pasha for his brave and dignified stand to defend this Pak Sarzameen. Ideally, we would have wanted him to stay to hold the fort longer but InshAllah, he is going for more important duties. He deserves our respect, love and sincere gratitude for defending our beloved Medina e Sani against almost impossible odds. Realize that it is almost impossible to protect Pak sarzameen when the very government, the media and the politicians are after the blood of the millat and major wars are being fought within the country. Still, our dear General fought hard, fought bravely and held the flag high. We are proud of you soldier. May Allah remain pleased with you.

General Zaheer is a fine officer also MashAllah and a thorough patriot. InshAllah, he will do his duty with courage and dignity also. Nation stands with our ISI and army in these most difficult times when treachery, betrayals and treason are rampant in the highest political and media offices. General Zaheer will land in a hot battle field and will have to move fast and ruthlessly to counter the massive threats gathering from all sides. We pledge all our support and dua to Pak army and ISI in these times of war. We stand shoulder to shoulder, sharing the burden, shedding the blood with our sons and brothers in uniform.

Let the traitors bark. Nation stands with the army and ISI

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani appointed a new director-general of the country’s powerful spy agency on Friday, according to a statement from the prime minister’s office. “The prime minister has appointed Lieutenant-General Zahirul Islam as the new DG-ISI,” it said, referring to the Directorate of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Islam, the Karachi Corps commander, takes over from Lieutenant-General Ahmad Shuja Pasha, who was appointed in 2008 and is retiring on March 18. The appointment of Islam puts to rest rumours regarding whether Pasha’s tenure would be extended. Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan also showed his concern about the extension of the DG ISI. “PM has no authority to extend Pasha’s tenure,” he said on Thursday. Pasha’s departure is likely to come as a relief to the American intelligence community which had a working, if frosty, relationship with him. That relationship became more difficult after US special forces found and killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in a town about a two-hour drive from the ISI’s Islamabad headquarters in May last year. Bin Laden’s presence in Pakistan, by some accounts for up to five years, raised suspicions in Washington that Pakistan’s main spy agency had been doing business with, or sheltering, America’s number one enemy.

Indian actor John Abraham sent to jail

Mumbai: A Mumbai sessions court on Friday sent Bollywood star John Abraham to jail for 15 days in a rash driving case. On October 14, 2010, the Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court at Bandra convicted the 39-year-old for the incident in which two persons were injured, and sentenced him to a 15-day simple imprisonment. He was granted bail the same day. A fortnight later, the model-actor filed an appeal in the Sessions Court against the conviction. His appeal stated that “judge has misconstrued and has, without applying the principles relating to the acts of rashness and criminal negligence, convicted the applicant (Abraham)”. The incident dates back to April 8, 2006, when Abraham allegedly rammed his motorbike into a bicycle, injuring two youngsters Shyam Kasbe, 22 and 19-years-old Tanmay Majhi.
